The Human Foundation

Ousia One is an independent publishing project concerned with a simple but difficult subject: what it means to be human.

We publish work that explores the patterns beneath human experience — the assumptions that shape our identities, the ways we adapt to the world around us, and the conclusions that influence how we think, feel, and act.

We call this purpose The Human Foundation.

​

The phrase describes both our subject and our ambition: to return to the human questions beneath the labels, categories, and explanations through which we often understand ourselves.

We are interested in the questions that cross the boundaries between philosophy and psychology, between private experience and shared human patterns, and between what we believe about ourselves and what our behaviour may reveal.

Our approach is exploratory rather than prescriptive. We do not ask readers to adopt a new identity or accept a ready-made explanation. We invite them to look more closely at what they already experience.

Our first publication is Love Became Conditional by Hendrikus M. R. Kok. It begins a longer inquiry into the patterns behind life’s biggest questions.

Ousia One is at an early stage. The book is the first substantial expression of this work, and the questions published here extend that inquiry beyond its pages.
